The natural or quasi-natural areas of the park are relatively small, limited at the nature reserves within. But this does not also apply to the fauna and flora diversity in the whole park, as we can find here a high biodiversity and a great number of species that are protected by international directives and agreements and by national internal laws. The protected species from the park increase the scientific and landscape value of our park, also representing support and a promoter for the communities in the area by promoting and developing ecotourism.
    But when we speak of biodiversity, we must refer mainly to protection and preservation and not to development, as loss of biodiversity and degradation of ecosystems would have negative effects on both the natural heritage of the park and the socio-economic development of the communities nearby.
