Caprioara Lunca Muresului
Caprioara

The most important mammals are red deer (Cervus elaphus), wild boars (Sus scrofa), fox (Vulpes vulpes), otter (Lutra lutra), liliacul de seară (Nyctalus noctula), pârşul de alun (Muscardinius avelanarius), European souslik (Spermophylus cytelus) etc.
There can be found 200 species of birds, most of which are protected, as the park is internationally declared as an Important Bird Area. Several species are to be mentioned:  lesser spoted eagle (Aquila pomarina), roller (Coracias garrulus), garganey (Anas querquedula), black stork (Ciconia nigra), grey heron (Ardea cinerea), little egret (Egretta garzetta), sand martin (Riparia riparia), bee-eater (Merops apiaster), skylark (Alauda arvensis), white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), song thrush (Turdus philomenes) etc.
Herpetofauna (amphibians and reptiles) is well represented, due to the character of wet area that the Mureş flooadplain has. Species such as: common tree frog (Hyla arborea), fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina), edible frog (Rana esculenta), Nothern crested newt (Triturus cristatus), sand lizard (Lacerta agilis), slow worm (Anguis fragilis), European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis), can be frequently met in the park.
The about 50 species of fish make the Inferior Mureş flodplain the richest segment of the river in terms of ichthyofauna. We mention: wels (Silurus glanis), sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus), spined loach (Cobitis taenia), striped ruffe (Gymnocephalus schraetzer), weatherfish (Misgurnus fossilis).
In the Mureş Floodplain Natural Park there can be found a lot of invertebrates and plants. The invertebrates have been less monitored up to now, but we can mention species such as: stag beetle (Lucanus cervus), escargot (Helix pomatia), common river mussel (Unio crassus), dragon flies (Ophiogomphus cecilia, Coenagrion ornatum).
